Military jackets have moved from the battlefield and made their way into trendsetter’s closets. Now these aren’t your normal uniform jackets — were talking full attitude paired with tons of color and design. Marc Jacobs, Gucci, and several other notable designers have continued the trend by releasing an array of pieces in 2017 that have an exciting amount of embellishment, floral design, and embroidered sequin. One of Marc Jacobs’ pieces from his resort collection retails at $1,500, and includes palm trees and flamingos – yes I said flamingos!

For this outfit look I chose a military jacket that was subtler, with no major embellishment or patchwork. Although these army toppers are supposed to be worn as a slouchy, over-size fit, I chose to go with a more fitted version. I’m obsessed with the delicate floral embroidery, and I love that it only adds a modest pop of color to this all black look. For the rest of the outfit I chose to go with a sheer black turtleneck, coated black pants, and my favorite over-the-knee Stuart Weitzman boots. The sunglasses were a recent purchase by a designer I had never heard of before, called Gentle Monster. When rocking this trend, try to keep the rest of your outfit simple to avoid clashing designs.

Embroidered patches are a super creative way to spice up your wardrobe, and can easily be an at home DIY project. You can purchase the patches online through etsy or amazon for as low as $3.99, and I’ve also seen them at retail stores like Topshop. You can iron or sew the patches in whatever design you desire, making any military jacket your own unique piece. Make sure to swap out your boring cardigans and jackets for this fashion-forward look!
